DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2010) – The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH)

and NASCAR have teamed to offer scholarships to the university.

The 2010 UNOH-NASCAR Scholarship Program will help three recent high school

graduates enroll in the university’s College of Technologies or College of Business as freshmen

for the start of classes in January 2011. The technologies and business areas of study are linked

to UNOH’s High Performance Motorsports Degree program, which was established in 1991.

The UNOH-NASCAR partnership offers scholarship awards of $5,000, $7,500 and $10,000

for a full academic year starting in January 2011.

Steve Farmer, a veteran of more than 30 years in motorsports, is UNOH’s vice president of

development and oversees the Lima, Ohio, college’s High Performance Motorsports program.

“Watching many of our students get an education and go on to fulfill their dreams of getting a

job in motorsports, there’s nothing more gratifying.” Farmer said. “It’s not an easy career to

pursue, but our graduates are prepared with knowledge, skills and real-world experience.”

Criteria to apply for the scholarships includes, but is not limited to, being a recent high

school graduate and maintaining a minimum 2.5 grade point average while enrolled at UNOH.

The applicant must also be a NASCAR-licensed member in good standing who participates in the

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, and is deemed worthy of financial assistance as judged

by appropriate college officials.

The UNOH-NASCAR Scholarship Program expands a relationship that began in 2009 with

UNOH’s sponsorship of the inaugural UNOH Perfect Storm 150 – the combination race between

the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour at Bristol

(Tenn.) Motor Speedway. This year’s race is scheduled for Aug. 18.

UNOH’s current High Performance Motorsports Degree program includes up to eight

student-built, maintained and driven UMP-type dirt Modifieds. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver

David Reutimann and his father, Buzzie, drove two of the cars in the Daytona Beach area in

February.

Current UNOH students Stephen Schnapf, Schuyler Nahre, Todd Sherman, Jeff Babcock,

Tony Anderson and Terry Hull and their 18-member student crew members also competed in

those events. In addition, 34 UNOH students worked as “over-the-wall” crewmen for February’s

ARCA 200 at Daytona International Speedway.

UNOH-NASCAR scholarship applications to be submitted for consideration should include a

cover letter, a resume or bio with current NASCAR Whelen All-American Series experience, a

copy of the applicant’s most recent report card or high school transcript of grades, up to three

letters of recommendation, all personal contact information and NASCAR license number.

Applications can be sent to: NASCAR Director of Developmental Series, One Daytona Blvd.,

Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Applications will be accepted through Sept. 19, 2010, which is the last

day of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points season.

Founded in 1920, the University of Northwestern Ohio is a private, not-for-profit, coeducational

institution. It is authorized by the Ohio Board of Regents to grant master’s degrees,

baccalaureate degrees and associate degrees. The university’s website is www.unoh.edu.
