Shawn Nye Crosses Line 1st in Yuengling Light 100; DeBrakeleer Wins INEX Legends Regional Qualifier

Lancaster, NY pilot Shawn Nye crossed the line first in the Yuengling Light Pro Modified 100 presented by the Upstate Automotive Group and NOCO Express Shop on a sultry, sunny Saturday at the Holland Motorsports Complex. However, the race results are unofficial pending a technical review. With the win in the INEX Legends feature, Mill Village, Pennsylvania’s Brandon DeBrakeleer is now qualified for the INEX Legends National Championship event, representing Holland. For DeBrakeleer, it was his third win of the season on the highbanks. Nick Crassi from Gowanda, NY won his first feature of the season in the Seneca Niagara Casino Late Models. Tommy Wentland from Cheektowaga, NY won his first career feature event for the Bank of Holland Chargers. Shawn Nye of Lancaster, NY won his second feature of 2015 in the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA TQ Midgets. Timmy Catalano from Ontario, NY won his fourth feature of the season in the Hornets.

Past Holland divisional champions George Skora III and Amy Catalano paced the field of Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency Pro Modifieds to the green flag for the Yuengling Light Pro Modified 100 and it was Skora leading the opening circuit over Catalano with Andy Jankowiak, Shawn Nye and TJ Zacharias racing inside the top five. Jimmy Zacharias passed brother TJ to move into the top five on lap three. Nick Morich spun exiting turn two to bring out the races first caution. The restart green on lap five would see Skora take off into the lead as Jankowiak would battle Amy Catalano for second place as Shawn Nye, Jimmy Z, and Tommy Catalano battle in the top six. Shawn Nye would work his way into third as Jimmy Zacharias fell to fourth and Tommy Catalano would pass Jankowiak to move into fifth place. Shawn Nye would pass Amy Catalano to move into second on lap 17 and began to reel in Skora.

The races 1/5th mark would see Skora continue to show the way over Nye with Jimmy Zacharias, Amy Catalano and Tommy Catalano in the top five. The leaders would continue to run in the same order on lap 25 as Nye would be racing in the same tire tracks as race leader Skora. Tommy Catalano would pass his mom Amy to move into fourth place on lap 30, just as the leaders started to catch lap traffic. Paul Hartwig Jr spun in turn four on lap 35 to bring out the caution for the second time of the event. The restart would see Andy Nye hit the turn three Armco barrier. On the restart, Skora would show the way but Shawn Nye was able to pass Skora coming out of turn four to take over the race lead on lap 41.

At the races halfway point, Shawn Nye would show the way with Skora, Zacharias, T Catalano and Andy J in the top five. The leaders would once again encounter lap traffic. Brent McLean spun on the back stretch to bring out the caution for the third time on lap 59. During the caution period, Andy Jankowiak went to the pits, giving up fifth place on the race track. Nye Skora to the lead on lap 66.Nye would regain the lead with 30 laps remaining. Jake Vernon hit the front stretch wall with 29 laps remaining to bring out the caution. The restart green came out on lap 74 and it was Nye back out front over Skora with JZ passing Catalano to regain third. JZ would pass Skora to move into second on lap 76 with Jankowiak moving up through the rear of the field to pass Catalano to take over fourth place. Alan Bookmiller and Tim Nies brought out the caution on lap 77. During the caution period, Tommy Catalano made a pit visit. The restart green would see Nye and Zacharias on the front row and Nye was able to keep the lead as Jankowiak would challenge Zacharias for second place. Nye would open up the lead in the late going. Nye would go on to cross the line first. Zacharias, Jankowiak, Fiebelkorn and Skora would complete the top five. The results of the 100 lap event is unofficial pending a technical review.

Matt Mead and Brandon DeBrakeleer led the INEX Legends to the green flag for their Regional Qualifier event with DeBrakeleer showing the way with Mead and Bryce Norton racing inside the top three. Carl Vilardo IV battled Brad Salatino for fourth place with Vilardo clearing Salatino on lap three as DeBrakeleer started to open up his lead over the rest of the field. DeBrakeleer continued to show the way over Mead, Norton, Vilardo and Salatino at the races halfway point. The leaders would hit lap traffic with eight laps remaining and would pass the lap traffic without any issue. Josh Marchese would spin in turn four to bring out the caution on lap 17 for the races first caution of the event. The restart would see DeBrakeleer back up front by a car length over Mead with Norton and Vilardo battling for third. Josh Stark would spin in turn two to slow the field down for the second time with two laps remaining. DeBrakeleer would jump back in front as Norton would look underneath Mead for second and would complete the pass coming to the white flag. DeBrakeleer would score the win over Norton with Mead, Vilardo and Salatino completing the top five.

Nick Crassi and Brandon Glover led the Seneca Niagara Casino Late Models to the green flag for their final feature event of the season and it was Crassi showing the way early on. Crassi would continue to hold the challenges from Glover, the recently crowned divisional champion. Glover would try the inside groove to pass Crassi over several circuits. The lead duo would come together in turn four to bring out the caution, giving the lead to Josh Hathaway. Off the restart, Crassi would take the advantage and would drive on to score the win. Hathaway would edge out Glover for the runner up spot.

Tim Welshans and Kris Hamann led the Bank of Holland Chargers with Hamann showing the way. Tommy Wentland passed Welshans to move into second place and the lead duo started to pull away from the rest of the field as Jim Loffredo, Dave Vona, Mark Hoch all battled for positions three on back throughout the early stages of the 25 lap feature event. Ed Culliton spun in turn two to slow the field down for the first time on lap 14.Wentland to the lead with nine remaining. Wentland would drive on to score the win, the first of his career.   

Chris Bauman and Nick Groff shared the front row for the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA TQ Midgets with Groff showing the way with Andy Nye in second followed by Shawn Nye, Kyle Hutchinson and Jonathan Reid running inside the top five. Andy Nye would pass Groff to take over the lead at the end of the opening circuit. Shawn Nye would pass his brother Andy for the lead on lap two with Hutchinson moving into second just one lap later. Nick Groff would get loose exiting turn two and just as he was recovering and straightening out his racer, Owen Bednasz, Chris Bauman and Chad Heywood would come together on the back stretch on lap four to bring out the caution. All the drivers climbed out of their racers under their own power. On the restart, Shawn Nye would jump out into the lead over Hutchinson with Andy Nye, Dave Wollaber and Jonathan Reid racing in fifth with Andy Jankowiak running in sixth. Wollaber would challenge Andy Nye for third and would complete the pass on lap 13. Shawn Nye would drive on to score the win, his second of the season. Hutchinson, Wollaber, Reid and Jankowiak would complete the top five.

Nikki Maltby and Adam Killingbeck brought the field of Hornets to the green flag for their feature event with Maltby showing the way. Timmy Catalano took the lead away on lap three as 2015 divisional champion Jeff Szafraniec moved into second place. Butcher Palmer got loose exiting turn four and hit the front stretch wall and brought out the caution on lap six. Off the restart, Catalano, Szafraniec and Hejna raced inside the top three with Ben Russo moving into fourth. The top four battled for several laps throughout the duration of the feature event. Timmy Catalano would hold off all challenges from Szafraniec, Russo and Hejna to collect his fourth win of the season.

The 2015 season will come to a close next Saturday September 12 with the night of total mayhem known as Crash-A-Rama! The fall show of Crash-A-Rama will see for the first time in many years, an FMX Dirt Bike Stunt Show. The fan favorite Enduro, School Bus Figure 8 Race, Boat-Trailer Race and more will also be on the card. Pit gates for Crash-A-Rama will swing open at 2:30pm with grandstand gates opening at 4:00pm and destruction will get underway at 6:30pm sharp. Make sure to purchase your tickets online to save the long waits at the ticket office. Fans are also encouraged to purchase tickets at participating Western New York Carquest and Advance Auto Parts stores for admission to the grandstand 1 hour early!
