George Skora III Earns Holland NASCAR Pro Modified Victory; Jason Adams Scores Figure 8 Track Championship

George Skora III from Eden, NY earned his third victory of 2014 for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Modifieds on Martin Brothers Chevrolet Night at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex.  Duplicating Consultants Inc. and Willey Well Drilling also presented the double-points racing program as part of the speedway’s 55th Anniversary Season. JD Roberts from West Valley, NYpicked up his first win of the season for the NASCAR Late Models. Shawn Nye from Lancaster, NY earned his first Holland checkered flag of the season in the NYPA TQ Midgets. Chris Powers from Orchard Park,NY won his third 4 Cylinder Hornet feature event of the season. Paul McCarthy from Clarence, NY picked up the victory for the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club. Darren Lenhardt from West Seneca, NY picked up his fourth feature of the season in the Future 4’s. Glenwood, NY’s Jason Adams won his seventh M&M U Pull-It Figure 8 car feature of the season and locked up the track championship.



Alan Bookmiller and Tony Carbone led the field of Getzoni Agency NASCAR Pro Modifieds to the green flag for their main event and it was Carbone charging into the lead. George Skora III went underneath Carbone to take over the race lead with Jeff Brown moving into second. Last week’s winner Tommy Catalano passed Carbone to move into third. The top three pulled away from Carbone and Mike Fiebelkorn Jr on lap ten as Amy Catalano and Shawn Nye reeled in Carbone and Fiebelkorn. Fiebelkorn would pass Carbone to move into fourth with Shawn Nye passing Carbone to move into fifth just before the races halfway mark. Skora would continue to lead Brown and Tommy Catalano at the cross flags with Fiebelkorn and Nye racing in the top five. The leaders would hit lap traffic late in the event as Skora started to open up the lead over Brown and Catalano. Amy Catalano would pass Shawn Nye to move into fifth place in the late going. Skora would go on to pick up the win over Brown with Tommy Catalano in third and was followed to the line by Fiebelkorn and Amy Catalano.


JD Roberts and Josh Hathaway showed the field of Late Models around the highbanks for their 20 lap feature event with Roberts showing the way. “The Strykersville Flash” Dave Heitzhaus raced his way into third and then passed Hathaway on lap four to move into second. Bill Osborn looped his racer on the back stretch to bring out the caution on lap five for the first time. On the restart it was Roberts in the lead over Heitzhaus with Brandon Glover in third. Glover would put pressure on Heitzhaus for second and Glover would go inside Heitzhaus but “the Strykersville Flash” was able to keep the runner up spot. Eldon King III passed Hathaway to move into fourth place just past the halfway mark. King would then go underneath Glover for third and would clear Glover on lap 16. Then King would go after Heitzhaus for second and would complete the pass with two laps remaining. JD Roberts ran away from the field to pick up the victory. King would hold off Heitzhaus, Glover for second, third and fourth and Josh Hathaway would round out the top five finishers.

Nik Welshans and Ken Maltby started the 30 lap Bank of Holland Charger feature on the front row and it was Maltby into the lead. Maltby would drive away from the field early on with Tim Welshans in second. Rob Miszczak would be on the move early on after starting seventh on the grid. Another driver that was on the move early was Eric Brown, who started 11th. Defending divisional champion Tom Northem slowed on the back stretch on lap five but was able to rejoin the field down one lap to the leaders. Maltby would continue to show the way near the races midway point but Miszczak and Brown continued to work their way through the field. Miszczak would be able to grab the lead away from Maltby with 12 laps remaining. With Miszczak leading the field, Brown would move into second and begin what would enfold to be a classic battle for the lead. Brown would throw everything he could at Miszczak and the two would exchange the lead in the late going. Miszczak would pull slightly ahead of Brown on the final lap and Miszczak would edge out Brown at the line to score his second victory of the season. Dave Vona would settle for third and Kris Hamann would hold off Tim Welshans to complete the top five.

Erik Musto and Vinnie Christiano Jr were on the front row for the NYPA TQ Midgets in their 20 lap feature event and it was Musto showing the way. Andy Nye moved into second with Nick Groff, Dave Wollaber and Shawn Nye running in the top five. Scott Gleed looped his racer in turn two to bring out the caution flag on lap six. Musto would regain the lead off the restart and Andy Nye was able to assume command on lap six. Shawn Nye charged into second on lap six and then just two laps later, went to the outside of his brother Andy to take over the lead on lap eight. Nick Groff hit the turn four wall to bring out the caution on lap 13. The restart saw Shawn and Andy touch wheels but Shawn Nye was able to clear his brother for the lead. Scott Gleed brought out the caution on lap 15 after making slight contact with the back stretch wall. The five lap shootout saw Shawn Nye in the lead with Andy Nye second and Dave Wollaber racing in third, Wollaber would challenge Nye for second and would complete the pass on lap 17.

Ashley Kirchberger and Ben Russo led the 4 Cylinder Hornets to the green flag for their 30 lap feature event with Kirchberger showing the way early on. Grant Hill hit the turn fall wall head on to bring out the red flag on lap one. Hill was alert and talking with speedway EMT’s and Safety Crew and went in the ambulance as a precaution. Ben Russo took over command on the restart with Chris Powers working his way into second with Josh Hill racing in third. Kenny Hejna went three wide with Carl Abrams and Jeff Szafraniec to move into fourth place. Bob Bogner, who was running fifth on the grid brought his car to the infield with a flat right front tire. Powers would close in on Russo when the field was hitting lap traffic. Hejna would pass Josh Hill on lap 20 to move into third. While the lead duo hit heavier traffic, Hejna was beginning to real in the leaders. Powers went to the outside to take over the lead in traffic on lap 26 with Russo being able to regain the lead a lap later. Powers regained the lead with two to go as Hejna caught Russo for second. Hejna went to the outside of Russo on the final lap and completed the pass in turn two. Powers would score the win over Hejna with Russo, Josh Hill and Jeff Szafraniec.

Joe Fetzer and Mark Loveland brought the field of Midstate Vintage Stock Cars to the green flag for their main event with Loveland showing the way. Paul McCarthy moved into the race lead on lap three. Lovelandhit the turn three Armco barrier on lap five. Paul McCarthy and Cory Sawyer battled for the lead in the remaining circuits with McCarthy being able to pick up the win.

Travis Murphy and Nikki Maltby led the Future 4’s to the green flag with Maltby showing the way early on. Joe Anthony went underneath Maltby to inherit the lead on the opening circuit. Darren Lenhardt looked to the outside of Maltby and moved into second on lap three. Lenhardt then went after race leader Anthony and the duo went side by side for the lead. Lenhardt would inch ahead of Anthony for the lead on lap seven and would complete the pass coming off turn four on lap eight.  Lenhardt would then pull away from Joe Anthony to pick up his fourth win of the season and third in a row. Nikki Maltby would finish in third and was followed to the line by Matt Kuppel and Alex Deshaies.


Jason Adams and Joe Mastrocicco brought the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8’s to the green flag for their 12 lap season finale with Adams showing the way when the field hit the Figure 8 track for the first time. Adamspulled away from Mastrocicco and Shane Toms in the early stages of the feature event. Shane Toms battled his way into second on lap seven and began his chase of leader Adams. Adams would go on to score the win, his seventh of the season and locked up the points title. Shane Toms would hold off Joe Mastrocicco and Bob Palmer at the finish.

News and Notes: The end of the season Awards Dinner and Banquet will be taking place on Friday November 14 at the Millennium Hotel on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga, next to the Walden Galleria. The ceremony will begin at 6:00pm. While celebrating his track championship, Jason Adams went undefeated and did a backwards victory lap to celebrate. With the recent repave to the Figure 8 track a few weeks ago, the surface will now also house a small Go-Kart track with racing to begin in a few weeks. We will be working closely with the Barber family, owners and operators of Bliss International Speedway.

The final point’s night and Season Championships will be decided next Saturday night, September 6 with the rescheduled George Decker Memorial Pro Modified 100 presented by Yuengling Light and Towne Automotive Group. The Late Models, Chargers, Hornets, Future 4’s and the NYPA TQ Midgets will all fill out the racing card.  Pit Gates will open at 3:00pm with grandstand gates opening at 4:45 and qualifying getting underway at 5:30pm. NASCAR feature racing will start immediately following qualifying. PLEASE NOTE: This event is rescheduled from Saturday, August 2. If entering the pit area, please bring the wristband from this day. Admission tickets from Saturday, August 2 will be accepted as well, but the ticket stub must be presented at the ticket gate. Discount coupons dated for August 2 will be accepted as well.
