HOLLAND, N.Y. (June, 29 2016) - A little over a year ago the WNY Racing community lost one of their own; Jerry Gradl Sr was not only a part of this local racing scene, he was a past competitor and long time supporter. Jerry was one of those guys that had a true passion for the sport. That passion pushed him to provide support and assistance long after he left the cockpit as a driver. On July 30th the NYPA Midget Association will be partnering with Holland International Speedway to hold the 2nd Annual Jerry Gradl Memorial Mini Indy 50 as a way to honor Jerry’s memory.

The race is once again slated for a 50 lap feature event with qualifying heats. The interesting thing about running a 50 lap feature is the 10 min refueling break at lap 25. This race is the longest of the season for the NYPA TQ Midgets. The NYPA TQ Midgets typically run 20-25 lap feature races. This event comes with the challenge of setting up the car for the race, in addition to the driver preparing for the additional laps as well.

Last year’s event was won by Kyle Hutchinson. He was piloting the famous John Casey #88 TQ Midget. A fitting combination for a race to honor such a beloved man as Jerry Gradl Sr. With his veteran crew behind him, Hutchinson in John Casey’s 88 machine are always a contender, but time will tell if they can back up last season’s win as the defending champion.

If there is one driver who will have something to say about the final outcome of this race, it’s Dave Wollaber of Lockport, NY. As of this writing he is coming off his 4th win of the season and other than his 2nd place showing for the Lancaster National Speedway Summer Slam, he has run an almost perfect season!

The lap bonus program will be returning for the 2016 event. Laps will be sold for $20 each and 100% of the proceeds will go to the drivers as part of an increased payout. There are some additional marketing opportunities available for this event including title sponsor. A contact form will be up on the NYPA Midget Association website for both lap sponsorships and event sponsorship.

Holland Speedway has an exciting evening of racing scheduled featuring the George Decker Memorial Modified 75 presented by Towne Automotive. This will truly be a night the local racing community can come together to honor two great men. With Lancaster Speedway being off for their Sunday Nostalgia Drag Racing weekend, all eyes will be on the events planned in the Holland Hills.
