HOLLAND, New York (August 27, 2016) – Rich Carnes from Cheektowaga, NY and Tom Northem from Alden, NY picked up the wins in the main events for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Chargers on Dick Flaig Remembrance Night on the historic highbanks of Holland International Speedway presented by Martin Bros Chevrolet. For Carnes, it was his second feature win of the season. Ben Russo from Lancaster, NY won his fourth main event of the season for the Bank of Holland Hornets. Dave Wollaber from Lockport, NY earned his fifth checkered flag of the season in the NYPA TQ Midgets. Bryce Norton from Walworth, NY scored his first win of the season in the Advance Auto Parts INEX Legends. Darryl Phillips from Angola, NY took home top honors in the Rookie 4’s while Sharon Hughes from Holland, NY scored her second win of the season in the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8’s.

Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Charger Feature number one was led to the green flag by Rich Carnes and Chuck Anderson and it was Carnes jumping into the lead. Jim Mallaber would take second away on lap on three and would fall back to third just one lap later as Nik Welshans moved into the runner up spot. Zach Myers raced his way into third on lap ten as Tom Northem moved into fourth just prior to the halfway mark. Northem and Myers battled for several laps for the third spot as Carnes and Welshans checked out on the field. Nik Welshans would close in on Carnes during the second half of the feature and would challenge the leader but Carnes would hold off Welshans to score his second win of the season.

In the nightcap main event for the V-8 horsepower Chargers, Matt Fleming and Tim Welshans brought the field to the green flag with Fleming showing the way early over Tim and Ted Welshans. Tom Northem went three wide with Jim Mallaber and Welshans to take over third place on lap six. Northem wasn’t done yet as he then passed Tim Welshans for second and would challenge Fleming for the lead at the halfway mark. Northem would go underneath Fleming to take the lead away with ten laps remaining. Justin Myers spun in turn four to bring out race first caution with just two laps remaining. On the restart, Northem would pull away to go on to score the win.

Dan Sharf led early on in the main event for the Bank of Holland Hornets. Ben Russo would take the lead away from Sharf on lap six. Jason Adams worked his way through the field and from his eighth starting spot took second on lap ten. Kenny Hejna started twelfth and was up to third at the races halfway mark. Russo would pull away from Adams in the late going to go on to score the win.

Third generation driver Vinnie Christiano III led early on in the main event for the NYPA TQ Midgets. Kyle Hutchinson would take the lead away from the young competitor on lap two as Dave Wollaber would take second away and would begin to chase down Hutchinson. Andy Nye, Christiano III, Vinnie Christiano Jr and Charlie DiRosa battled for third for a pair of circuits before Nye started to pull away over DiRosa and Christiano Jr. Wollaber would catch race leader Hutchinson on lap eight and would challenge Hutchinson for the lead. Wollaber would complete the pass exiting turn two to take the lead away with nine laps remaining. Hutchinson would then try to use the same move that Wollaber used on him for the lead, but Wollaber would remain the leader and would stretch the lead as they entered lap traffic. The caution lights would come on with just five laps remaining as Vinnie Christiano III spun in turn three. Wollaber would hold off Hutchinson to score the win with Andy Nye, Vinnie Christiano Jr and Chad Heywood completing the top five.

Carl Vilardo jumped into the early race lead in the main event for the Advance Auto Parts INEX Legends. Bryce Norton and Anthony Riforgiato ran second and third for much of the main event with Norton challenging Vilardo for the lead for several circuits. The field would hit lap traffic by the races midway point. Bryce Norton was able to catch Vilardo and would take over the lead with four laps remaining, Vilardo would challenge Norton in the late stages but Norton would go on to score the win.

Dale Lombardo and Darryl Phillips dueled in the main event for the Rookie 4’s division. Lombardo tried to reel in Phillips but Phillips would be tough on this night. Phillips would drive off into the sunset, and win another feature event in the division for pure racing rookies.

Sharon Hughes took the lead away from husband Marty just after the halfway mark in the main event for the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8 main event. Sharon would hold off the challenges of Marty and Jim Steins throughout the last five laps to score her second win of the season.

NEWS AND NOTES: Martin Brothers Chevrolet had a parade of their new vehicles as part of the Parade of Safety Vehicles prior to the start of the main events.  The track welcomed several members of area Boy Scout Troops and their families for a night at the races and camping. The speedway would like to pass on their condolences to the family of “Joey Z”, Joe Zglinicki on his recent passing. “Joey Z” was a past Challenger, Charger, and Pro Truck driver for several seasons, and was a fan favorite throughout all his years of competition. This year we lost a truly great and loved member of our extended Holland Speedway race family. Dick Flaig was a fierce competitor on the track, and a wonderful man off it. What an honor to have so many of his close friends and family come out to help us commemorate his life and career. Thank you to Tom Reese and Tom Reese, Jr. for sharing all the amazing memorabilia. May the #33 live on in victory lane forever.
